The Democrats can still get health care...Hear hear! The Democrats can still get health care reform, as long as they want it. They can pass the Senate bill and push through changes in reconciliation, or they can pull out some reasonable positions, strip out some deal making, and ram through substantive reform that's not as big.

They just lost the chance to do it the easy way, with a filibuster proof majority.

Which is fine, you know? Because they got comfy with that. They thought they had *time* when they had that; they thought they could let people posture and demand bribes. They made a flippin' hash of things. They got complacent faster than the Republicans did.

They need to push their message, they need to enforce party discipline on the important stuff (I'll grant you, campaigning for McCain was disloyal, but buggering HCR was traitorous) and show that when they say they want something, they want it - even if it's hard.LongHairedWeirdohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00719702522755422229noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13172818.post-81165474922657555262010-01-25T14:45:06.541-05:002010-01-25T14:45:06.541-05:00Amen, Brother!Amen, Brother!David Terrenoirehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09482864941636273068noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13172818.post-15443224636572730482010-01-24T16:45:54.076-05:002010-01-24T16:45:54.076-05:00Gene Lyons got it right in Salon the other day.
