Texas says "Kinky" can be on ballot:
HOUSTON (Reuters) - Writer and musician Kinky Friedman, who once sang 'They Ain't Making Jews Like Jesus Anymore,' may include the name by which he is best known on the ballot to choose Texas' next governor in November, the state's top election official said on Monday.
Texas Secretary of State Roger Williams said Friedman's nickname was not a slogan and thus did not violate state law. His name will appear on election ballots as Richard 'Kinky' Friedman.
But Williams, a Republican, said Carole Keeton Strayhorn, who is also running as an independent against incumbent Republican Gov. Rick Perry, cannot include 'Grandma' as a nickname on the ballot.

So if The Kinkster wins, will "Asshole from El Paso" be the state anthem? Because it is a really great song, in fact probably the best parody EVER, and I say that as a fan of Merle Haggard.
The Kinkster lives in my town. He was often seen about town doing his errands, before he began running for office and being off in the hinterlands looking for a lot of moolah.
I've got a "Kinky For Governor: Why The Hell Not?" sticker on my pickup truck. I like it, it says a LOT here in this iron-clad bastion of Republican voters. There are still "W-04" stickers showing on over half the vehicles in the county. The WalMart parking lot is full of them.
Kinky's actually a very nice man. He's also hilarious in a "in-your-face" kinda way. But his greatest sin is that damn cigar. Oh, well, at least he was on 60 Minutes a couple of Sundays ago.
Okay, have I given away the fact that I'm voting for the Kinkstere this fall? I hope so...
I'm also a tiny blue dot in a very red county and my Kinky bumper sticker is right next to the "Frodo Failed, Bush Has The Ring" and "M-imageofpeach-W" stickers. I think he's got a better chance of winning than the Democratic nominee.
