Poor Katie Couric

You just know everyone's going to give her a hard time in her new post as anchor of the venerable CBS Evening News. She's going to have to fight to be taken seriously. And, of course, it's entirely because of her gender because, you know, sexism is always to blame.

The fact that her first newscast as anchor climaxed with a breathless report on the first photographs of TomKat's new little hellspawn
has nothing at all to do with it. Nuh-uh.

Jesus Christ on a raft. David Brinkley and Edward R. Murrow are spinning in their graves like power plant turbines.

Tonight's newscast looked just a midgen (in Katie parlance) to the right of FOX. If she thinks being soft on motherly issues makes her political stance on foreign issues palatable, she and CBS are quickly off my favorite channel selections.

Patti: with all due respect, why the hell was CBS News ever ON your favorite channel selections?

Actually I don't even know how to use that function, and it would make no sense what with my husband's endless surfing. It was meant to be illustrative of my frustration with the media.

Katie's been on my (ahem) crap list since her name showed up in an ad on History Channel for a program trying to decide who the Greatest American was. I kid you not, it was shoehorned among Lincoln, Edison and Washington.

She's got no business in that company and she should either fire her publicist or hang her head in shame. I'd write a blog about The Cult of Katie, but the research wouldn't be worth my time.

And yet, either way, it HAS to be an improvement over Dan-bot. What is the frequency, Katie?
