And People Wonder Why a Liberal Like Me Owns a Gun

Bill O'Reilly, Michael Savage, Sean Hannity on accused shooter's reading list : Knoxville News Sentinel

Police found right-wing political books, brass knuckles, empty shotgun shell boxes and a handgun in the Powell home of a man who said he attacked a church in order to kill liberals "who are ruining the country," court records show.

Knoxville police Sunday evening searched the Levy Drive home of Jim David Adkisson after he allegedly entered the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church and killed two people and wounded six others during the presentation of a children's musical...

Inside the house, officers found "Liberalism is a Mental Health Disorder" by radio talk show host Michael Savage, "Let Freedom Ring" by talk show host Sean Hannity, and "The O'Reilly Factor," by television talk show host Bill O'Reilly.

Now, wingnuts across the blogosphere have gone into a fury of denial that the works of their favorite mouth-foaming, angry Culture Warriors have anything at all to do with this nutball's actions.

Yet if someone finds video games like "Grand Theft Auto" or "Doom 3" inside the home of someone who goes on a shooting rampage, or if the shooter's fond of violent movies, there's an immediate outcry for new regulations of so-called "violent" media.

Will we see a similar outcry against right wing drivel? Should Hannity, O'Reilly, and Savage's books be required to carry warning stickers? How about "Rated 'B' for 'Batshit Crazy"?

Discuss.

Well, I dunno, Dusty. I think you're onto something. Every time I walk into Borders and am greeted by Ann Coulter's sneering mug taking space away from more deserving authors like, say, Larry Flynt or Carrot Top, I want to get a Louisville Slugger and start bashing in the skulls of anorexic blonde waifs with right wing tendencies.

Yeah, I think they should carry warning labels.

And be sold in plain brown wrappers.

But, . . . IOKIFYAR

But, Jim, Ann is so wise and articulate she deserves that space...

Of course, it's a kind of 7th-grader wisdom, but still.

Stacey: best part of that link is the description of Coulter as a "wearying length of gristle."

Let's have a Hall Of Shame: wingnut quotes screaming about video games promoting violence, side-by-side with the same wingnuts denying that their hate-filled litany had anything to do with this. Their whole schtick is based on "Will no one rid me of this meddlesome priest" tactics, and nobody is calling them on it.

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, me happy all day now.

They'll ending up tracking Bill O'Reilly's books to find the urban terrorists....

I was rather fond of "attention-starved" ring wraith, but that may be my Tolkienerd showing through.

Bill: that one was good, too.
Jen: If I've made you happy, dear, my day is now complete.

Having been born and raised in Knoxville, I was not surprised that the shooter was a right-wing nut. When I was a teenager, I worked in a men's clothing store in what could be described as one of Knoxville's little "Bible Belt" neighborhoods. I've never seen more conservative and God-fearing men carrying their personal handguns "to protect themselves". IMHO, the only people they needed to protect themselves from were other right-wing conservative nuts.
