Another Good American

Gov. Rick Perry on Thursday stuck by his earlier statement that Texas can secede from the United States — a far-reaching, legally questionable prospect that nevertheless drew Perry a fresh favorable mention by Rush Limbaugh, one of the nation's leading conservative voices.

I hate to sound like a broken record here, but what do you think would be happening right now if a liberal Democratic governor--say, Howard Dean--had suggested that his state could secede from the Union in a fit of pique over a Republican President's policies, and a liberal radio host--say, Randi Rhodes--had backed him on it? Calls for him to step down and for her to be taken off the air, almost certainly. And they'd both be regarded as a "kooks" by the mainstream media. And I have no doubt that some right wingers, like Ann Coulter and Michelle Malkin, would be demanding they be locked up or executed as traitors. I mean, "traitor" was probably the kindest thing the wingnuts said about Alec Baldwin and all he did was threaten to move HIMSELF out of the country.

But when you're a Republican, none dare call it treason, I guess. Then, it's "grassroots protest."

You don't understand do you? Perry's comments are a call for Americans to wake up and realize that the current "administration" is nothing more than a socialist power grab by the DemonRats. That turd Alec Bald-and-no-win was rejecting the United States and all it stands for. He was looking to run north rather than abandon his absurd ideas. Perry, and other patriots, are looking to continue American traditions and values and not kowtow to the UN-loving, "multicultural" agenda being pushed by the left. If they Texas did secede at east they could then close the SOUTHERN BORDER!!!

Anything goes when you don't give a wet dripping damn about truth or honor. Lust for power makes villains of the best.

And if you start with someone less than ethical right from the git-go, well . . .

Hey, if Texas bails out, we don't have to deal with their textbook censorship!

Yeah, but I'd really miss Murder by the Book in Houston. And Bill Crider.

Yeah, but you could say you have an "international" tour if you go to Houston to sign!

Provided, of course, they let you in.

That's ALL you'd miss about Houston? *sniffle*

Seriously, is he really talking about secession? I caught a video segment the other day that sounded much more like this was just about his determination to turn down Texas' share of the stimulus money. Not because of "government interference," but because part of it would undermine his pet pork project, the Trans-Texas Tollway (built by friends of his, who wouldn't get any of the stimulus money).

D'oh! Sorry, Celine, in my mind I still associate you with Nashville. I'd miss you, too.

Remember, this is the state whose campaign slogan was one "Like a whole other country."

The Georgia Senate is talking about secession, too, They passed a resolution to declare the Constitution null and void if the federal government takes certain actions.

Let's try to think of this rationally before we get our collective shorts in a knot. We could get along with Texas and Georgia. Maybe we should let them go, if they promise to take Florida and Mississippi with them.

At least in Canada we have a referendum when one province wants to secede.
