I suspect McCain's advisors thought they could take someone who was a blank slate and teach her to become their puppet.
But you can't trust people who revel in their own ignorance, and I suspect the McCain camp is still smarting from that.
What's truly sad is that there are so many people who are like Palin -- deliberately and wilfully ignorant. They do say ignorance is bliss, so her followers must be some happy campers!
