The Corner on National Review Online: As NRO's designated chickenhawk, let me be the one to ask: Where was the spirit of self-defense here? Setting aside the ludicrous campus ban on licensed conceals, why didn't anyone rush the guy? It's not like this was Rambo, hosing the place down with automatic weapons. He had two handguns for goodness' sake—one of them reportedly a .22.
Yes, folks, you heard right. According to this leading online light of modern "conservatism," If Virginia Tech students, some not even out of their teens, died, well, it was partially their fault for not rushing a maniac with a gun who was going all John Woo on everyone.
Painful as it may be, you really have to check out the whole thing to grasp the breathtaking callousness of this right wing lunatic.

It gets worse than that, Dusty. Within hours after news of the shootings hit the airwaves, someone on my LiveJournal reading list had posted a professional-looking poster featuring a splatter of blood and words to the effect that if the campus hadn't had a handgun ban, the victims would still be alive.
I'm sure their families would feel much better seeing that. Bastards.
Well, yeah, the NRO's resident chickenhawk could have rushed the guy if he'd been there.
That is if he could put down the Cheetos long enough and could actually, you know, run with a full pantload.
You hear that flushing sound? That'd be a political career goin' straight down the shitter.
God, I love that sound.
I'm betting the NRO's resident chickenhawk barely passed college. But that's just my batshit ranting. This kind of "editorialzing" is despicable and disgusting. If a man comes at you, pointing a gun in your face, you have about 1/10th of a second to respond. Rushing him? Maybe someone from outside the group could've done that - but the problem with mass shootings like this one, is that people instinctively "herd" together for "safety". It's a proven fact. That leaves them open to being mown down, yes, even by a handgun. Even the passengers on Flight 93 had a leader to get them organized - they had time to plan. These poor kids had that 1/10th of a second, thank God they were head shots for the most part and they died quickly.
