CONTEST: Who Said It?

"Republican political doctrine has been a failure. Look at New Orleans. How can you say that was a success? Look at Baghdad ... We've been in charge for six years and I don't think you can look around and say that was a great success."

And:

"None of you should believe we are winning this war [referring to the so-called war on terror]. We are in a phony war ... we have not been taking this seriously."

First one to get it right wins the first three Jack Keller books: THE DEVIL'S RIGHT HAND and GOOD DAY IN HELL in paperback, and the new one, SAFE AND SOUND, in hardcover.

No Googling--you're on the honor system.

It sounds like something Dick Cheney would say, right before he demanded more money and more troops.

Gingrich made the statements in a speech at the Young America's Foundation National Conservative Student Conference.

David, send your snail mail address to dustyr@nc.rr.com, and your books are in the mail. Autographed.

I think, interestingly enough, that Gingrich is the only Republican who has a smart strategy for running for President, which is essentially to disavow Bush and the Republican leadership in Congress, and to run as an outsider with new ideas. Similar to what Sarkozy did in France.

Of course, Gingrich is not likable or credible enough to succeed as a candidate himself, but the other candidates should take notes.

I saw this in the paper this morning and look forward with great anticipation to all the right wing blogs attacking him for being a defeatist stooge undermining the morale of our fighting men on the front lines of Bush's GWOT.

Or not.
