Quick! More Teabags!

The Fix - The Republican Shrinkage Problem
The new Washington Post/ABC news poll has all sorts of intriguing numbers in it but when you are looking for clues as to where the two parties stand politically there is only one number to remember: 21.

That's the percent of people in the Post/ABC survey who identified themselves as Republicans, down from 25 percent in a late March poll and at the lowest ebb in this poll since the fall of 1983(!).

In that same poll, 35 percent self-identified as Democrats and 38 percent called them Independents.

Obviously, the Republicans need to purge more moderates and talk more about socialism, pizza and teleprompters. Oh, and Dick Cheney needs to be out front more telling us what a great thing torture is.

It's the only sane thing to do to save the GOP.

The 38% Independent was encouraging ... maybe it'll go up as this becomes more and more apparent; that the Dems are letting the banks go right back to doing whatever the hell they want (higher salaries for management as reported by Paul Krugman) and then there's this ...

Top Senate Democrat: bankers "own" the U.S. Congress

Sen. Dick Durbin, on a local Chicago radio station this week, blurted out an obvious truth about Congress that, despite being blindingly obvious, is rarely spoken: "And the banks -- hard to believe in a time when we're facing a banking crisis that many of the banks created -- are still the most powerful lobby on Capitol Hill. And they frankly own the place."

A "blindingly obvious" truth that will yield those living on the brink economically exactly what difference from a Republican Congress?

Like I said ... the 38% is encouraging ... if those who like what Ralph Nader has to say vote on it instead of talk the talk, who knows what might happen down the road. A government of the people, by the people might one day become for the people. Until then, no matter how good it (or Obama) looks on camera, sorry to rain on your Democratic party parade, but it has been and remains business as usual.

And, just now from CNN ... Chrysler will file for bankruptcy ... more money well spent by the "oh so anxious to follow George Bush's bailout plan" Democrats ...

Great ... more of our money down the shitter.

And add one more job to the list of unemployed (thank you, Mr. President(s)).

Just got whacked from my weekend position ...

Yeah, voter confidence is way up!

Sorry to hear it, Charlie. But actually voter confidence IS on the way up.

It isn't the confidence I'm interested in ... it's the work.

It's good to know my extra $36K to the gov't this year ... along with all those bailout bucks is being put to good use.

I looked but didn't see my $20 million golden parachute ...

Then again, I didn't manage a company into the ground.

It's gonna be weird being home two days in a row, brother ...

Sorry, Charlie. Losing work sucks - that kind of frustration can drive me up the wall.

Maybe you can fill the time with another novel about Whatsherface? Just make sure to include the black lady cop and the Russian cop. I liked those two characters.

Yeah, remember Lee Child. He lost his job in broadcasting, so the story goes, and decided he needed to make some money quick. So he wrote a novel.

I like Lee a lot, so I don't throw things at him for that story. But there are times when it's a damned close-run thing.

Charlie, sorry to hear this. Here's to better days.

Go ahead and throw things at Lee, Dusty. He's moving so fast you can't possibly hit him, anyway.

Set the sequel in Vegas and maybe you can write the trip off as research.

Guys:

I appreciate the kind words but it really isn’t that bad … yet. I still work 5 days a week and although I used to work 24 hours over the weekend (3+ years), there’s always been a full-time gig to compliment it (because former bookmakers/knockaround guys just aren’t lazy types) … but I do already feel like a slacker and it isn’t even the weekend yet.

My wife also works full time while pursuing her nursing degree so we’re not hurting … yet. When (or if) that happens and we both lose our full-time jobs … well, then it really was dumb of me to go legit.

I mean, look at what Wall Street got away with. Who says crime doesn’t pay?

The upside is drumming time … we’re having that reunion in Wilmington, NC end of July so now I have some extra time to work on my drumming chops … not to mention the much appreciated move to Saturday/Sunday either dead lifts/squat or heavy bench day (because the 12 hour shifts precluded me working out on the weekends, I had to do it at 4:00 a.m. before going to work during the week).

Still, truth be told, I already feel like a fucking slacker.

My wife’s first words to me were: “You needed a break anyway, but I have a routine on the weekends, so don’t torture me now that you’ll be home.”

Geez, having me around the house is suddenly like waterboarding …
