Whenever you read a story like this:
U.S. Senator Christopher Dodd has been diagnosed with early-stage prostate cancer.
Dodd is scheduled to undergo surgery during the Senate's August recess and said he expects to be back at work after a "brief recuperation" at home.
You can count of the compassionate conservatives over at FreeRepublic to respond with that conservative love:
Does he really have cancer or is he going for the sympathy vote? I just don’t trust the ‘rats. They will say and do anything to push their agenda and stay in power.
SO why this announcement? For sympathy in preparation for a re-election run?
Don't you try for the sympathy vote Dodd. Try crying racism if this don't work. You should be in jail not the Senate.

I blame Vince Lombardi. Some people made a jihadist religion out of, "Winning isn’t everything; it’s the only thing."
Idealogues count human life as cheap.
Vince was a very compassionate person ... at least toward the gay community (unlike the ruling party in America these days--the one with all the clout that can't seem to get out of its own way). Vince's brother was gay and Lombardi didn't allow gay jokes in his locker room (think about how hard that had to be when he coached).
Besides, the lunatics on the right spewing their brand of crap aren't winning anything. They look foolish is all.
And we look foolish pointing it out (over and over and over again) ... what we should be doing is asking the new administration what the hell (or when the hell) we're going to see some of the change we were promised.

Tom: Vince Lombardi’s brother was gay and the coach didn’t permit gay bashing jokes in his locker room (not so easy in those days). Vince was as compassionate as the next person. His saying has been taken out of context forever it seems. It was aimed (as in focused) on a football season, not a life commitment.
That said, if you’re going to war (for a just reason), you’d want a Lombard/Patton/Grant, etc., leading your army.
What the above has to do with the Democrats accomplishing nothing since they have an across the board majority is interesting. I wonder where all the war protesters have gone, for one thing (speaking of hate (i.e., the hate directed at Republican President George W. Bush) … no one seems to mind the war in Afghanistan, the so-called right war) … no one asks what it’s about … no one asks this president if he has an exit strategy, what the purpose of the war is, why we’re not out of Iraq (since it was the wrong war at the wrong time in the wrong place and all) … why wait until 2011 to pull out? Why not yesterday?
I’ll concede Bush was dumb as the day is long and should have been impeached here and brought up on war crimes in the Hague but that was up to the Democrats (here) and they didn’t seem to have a problem with his policies so long as they could blame everything on him to get the white house. Well, now they have it (the white house … and the Senate … and the Congress) and … well, what’s changed?
I know, I know … he’s only been in office for, what, seven months now? The other way to look at it is: He only has 17 months left before that excuse gets weaker than it already is and the voting public takes away his clear majority.
And what does this have to do with making fun of conservative “compassionate” Republicans?
Nothing, I guess. Maybe just that sometimes you need to break up the monotony.
