Oh, HELL Yeah!

Not only is Ken Bruen's BLITZ coming to the big screen but Jason Statham's playing Brant.

I'd always seen Bob Hoskins or maybe Ben Kingsley in the role, but they're getting some age on them, and Statham's a solid choice.

I am extremely happy about this. Ken's an amazing writer and a great guy, and I would love to see him get the recognition he deserves AND get absolutely filthy stinking rich. This might do it.

That's fantastic!

The year's best movie so far also stars Statham: CRANK: HIGH VOLTAGE.

Jonathan, was HIGH VOLTAGE really any good? Because it looked kind of silly from the previews.

I so fuckin LOVE it when the good guys get some of what they deserve and I'm with you. Ken deserves.
Who's Jason Statham? I blush to admit I don't know him. I ADORE both Hoskins and Kingsley, so will this guy do?

Andi, Statham was in The Transporter movies, so he's got the action move credentials. He was also in THE BANK JOB, which showed me at least that he had some acting chops. He's very good at playing understatedly intense, and I think he could really bring the proper aura of barely controlled menace to Brant.

Yeah. He'll do.

Since Brant is a cro-mag, I think Jason might do very well.

Especially since Brant's an intensely charismatic cro-mag.

What absolutely great news! Like Andi, I'm not familiar with Statham, but I do trust you guys, so it sounds like a perfect casting job.

But mostly I'm jazzed on Ken's behalf! What fabulous news!

This is the best news since Olen's big snuggle with George Clooney's film company.

As Andi said, I love it when the good guys get what they deserve.

Andi,

Ken is getting much love from Hollywood these days. He has several options out there, with both BLITZ and LONDON BLVD heading into production.

Who is Olen?

Olen Steinhauer, the man directly responsible for my blog and the author of The Tourist, among other terrific books.

He's one of the good guys.

Still, he's a good man, and he meant well. Let it go.

Absolutely perfect, Dusty! LONDON BOULEVARD filming as we speak, ONCE WERE COPS optioned as well, BLITZ about to be filmed (isn't Jude Law in this one?), and I understand that the Jack Taylor novels are heading for the screen as well: series for TV. The only bloody thing wrong with this whole scenario is that I can't find Ken anywhere - and I used to be able to down a few pints with him on a regular basis here in Galway. Guess I'll have to wait till he gets that pad in Malibu ... but, hell, that's no good either, there aren't any decent pubs there! What am I to do?

Jason Statham's a good choice if anyone is. But I don't know if anyone could do justice to character like Brant -- unhinged but with a conscience.

This is such great news. I don't really know Mr. Bruen, but he comes across as very gracious and helpful to newbies (he was nice enough to give one of my stories a blurb). Oh yeah, and he’s a damn fine writer. Here’s hoping the movies will give his work the recognition it ought to have.

I didn’t really get into the Transporter movies, but Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and Snatch are some of my favorite crime movies of all time. And the Bank Job is pretty good too.

This is gonna be good.
