Who's The Elitist Again? Part Deux...

From the McCain Campaign:

"The reality is they have some investment properties and stuff. It's not as if he lives in ten houses. That's just not the case," Rogers said. "The reality is they have four that actually could be considered houses they could use."

Anyone who can say "only four houses and the rest are investment properties" with a straight face has lost the right to call anyone an elitist and out of touch.

But . . . but . . . McCain was a P.O.W. I know because he and/or his surrogates say so approximately every 30 seconds.

Trivia question. How many U.S. veterans have no homes at all? Approximately 150,000. Trivia question #2. Which U.S. P.O.W. voted against veterans benefits in the current U.S. Senate while running for president?

What the hell's wrong with you weak spineless empathetic liberals? What's wrong with someone living the American Dream? Why the hell shouldn't an American hero get to be President if his wife can afford to buy the election for him?

Oops. Damn. I forgot to misspell enough wurds.

It's pretty incredible and, to me, speaks volumes that McCain didn't know how many homes he owns. Cripes. That'd be a downright luxurious problem to have.

On the downside, it might not be all that smart a thing for Obama to go after him on, because, when it comes to housing, he's got a lot of rotten apples himself that I'm sure the opposition wouldn't mind throwing at him.

Does Obama have much of a pocket book anyway? He's worked mostly in public service hasn't he? That's not the way to make money - although recent book sales and speaking honorariums must bulged his bank account.

What does his wife do besides get people angry? I suppose I could look it up...

She's an attorney, she also worked for the City of Chicago. The Obamas aren't as loaded as some, but they have money and run strictly with the wealthy here in Chicago, but that's par for the course for politics around here. I prefer Obama to McCain, but his Chicago connections are not a good thing and he'll prove to be no less corrupt than any other clown who's ever been in that office. Hell, he already helped a mob front (one of his wealthy banker buddies) gain the office of IL State Treasurer. If they ever go after Governor Rod, maybe Obama can pardon him.

Kent: best they've been able to come up with is Tony Rezko, and no one as yet has been able to connect Obama to anything crooked done by Rezko. He was a contributor, sure, but Obama, IIRC, has either given it back or donated every cent to charity.

Kent said...

That's sorta weird. I mean, Obama's letters asking the City and State to give special consideration to Rezko to buy the properties he ran as slums have all been printed in the papers here (albeit long before he announced his Presidential run). Maybe it's possible Obama was duped by Rezko, but I kinda doubt it. He's a sharp guy, and he swims with the sharks. I have a hard time believing he didn't know the score.

The AP: Obama and his wife bought their home in Chicago in 2005 for $1.6 million after getting advice from Rezko. The corruption case had no connection to Obama, and Obama has said it was a mistake to work with Rezko on buying the house.

And if McCain really wants to go there, I have two words for him: KEATING FIVE.

Kent said...

Which amounts to very little. And ignores the prior property they purchased with Rezko's help and lied about. He knew Rezko wanted to be in the slumlord business. Just because he didn't do something illegal hardly lets him off the hook for being a man with poor ethics, does it? Pretty talk only gets you so far... The White House, even, perhaps.

lied about.

Cite, please?

Dunno, why don't you ask the Senate Ethics committee which investigated the Keating Five scandal and found, on the record, that McCain had exercised "poor judgment"?

Any investigatory body, or anyone other than wingnut bloggers for that matter, said anything similar about Obama?

Just goes to show that any and all candidates have done things that are questionable. Especially a candidates from Chicago or with years in Congress.

I don't mean to say McCain or Obama's shenanigans (or possible shenanigans) are excusable; nor do I mean to fall back to the "lesser of two evils" argument. I fall back on the "you have to take the good with the bad" argument.

I'm looking. I know the Chicago Tribune reported it a couple years ago, I'm looking. The gist is, the Obamas said they didn't know condos are property. Obvious and glaring lie, if you ask me.

Senate Ethics? Isn't that a contradiction?

My biggest complaint with Obama, since he's the guy I'm voting for, is that I think he's a rotten father because, obviously, he has put his greedy political aspirations ahead of his family. A good man NEVER asks his family to sacrifice for his own goals.

My biggest complaint with fellow Obama supporters is that so many are willing to take him at his word. Remember how he promised he would never take kickbacks if elected to the Senate? Remember who immediately started flying all over the world for free? Remember how he said he wouldn't go along with Bush's Big Brother hold the telecommunications empires harmless plan and then voted Bush's way? Yeah, he's a good talker, and I'd rather see him in office than any other candidate, but I just can't be duped into believing he's a good guy. I still think all those who try to say he's a Muslim, supports terrorists, etc. are whacked. He may even be the best choice for a President we've had in decades, but come on, he's a politician. How much faith can a person really have in anyone who would even want to be president?

I can agree with that. Though part of me still feels it's unfortunate that it's the best we can do.

Also, until today, I never knew how many pages upon pages of weird whacked out Obama stuff there is out there. Holy crap.

Kent, any budding politico hands out small favors to as many important people as possible. That's how you play the game if you want to move up in the world. You get some important neighbors a few zoning exceptions, they help you raise funds for your city council run, you do favors for the local businesses, they help you make your state rep run, etc..

That Obama had dealings with Rezco is like saying he shakes hands and kisses babies. Rezco was a slumlord? Okay, he was a slumlord. And I'll guarantee you that McCain's helped a few slumlords as well. McCain's just lucky that his slumlords weren't indictable.

Unless Obama helped Rezco with something he knew was illegal, that he wrote some letters and made some phone calls shouldn't raise any eyebrows. Yes, you'd wish he'd been helping a businessman who was building plush orphanages and playgrounds and organizing community birthday parties for disadvantaged youngsters, but, alas, there are more local slumlords who'll help you get elected than there are kindly, philanthropic businessmen.
