Let the Wingnuts Burn

Jim Winter Makes Sense.

In short, he suggests that the Republicans with any damn sense just abandon ship, let the clowns like Limbaugh and Co. run the damn thing onto the rocks, and start over. Possibly as Libertarians or even Blue Dog Democrats.

Now, unlike Jim, I've never met a libertarian with a sense of humor, but I'm willing to allow that my contact has been limited to some of the more hardcore members of the party. And I did vote once for a Libertarian for Attorney General of North Carolina , just because I knew the other candidates and they were idiots who were having a good day if they didn't drool on themselves. Also, I thought a libertarian's head might explode having to enforce some of North Carolina's laws, and I thought that might be entertaining. But I digress.

The alternative is to wrest control of the party away from the Birthers and the Teabaggers and restore some intellectual honesty to the GOP so we can have a real debate over real issues, not yapping over BIRTH CERTIFICATE GATES GATES RACIST RACIST RACIST SOCIALIST MARXIST FASCIST AYERS AYERS JEREMIAH WRIGHT from now till fucking doomsday.

But I don't see any will among sane Republicans (and they do exist) to do this.

The other thing I didn't suggest but should have: Hey, would you all like to be Whigs? Worked for Lincoln. Besides, think of the campaign possibilities:

"Come on! Flip your Whig for America!"

The only sense of humour I've seen out of any libertarian I've met has been cruel, mocking and dismissive. Not interested, thanks.

It seems like a healthy democracy when every movement gets a voice - no matter how small a percentage of the population it represents.

From the beinning Palin always reminded me of Jean-Marie Le Pen in France.

It's good to put that extreme on the ballot but not as part of a mainstream right-wing party. Even France moved a little more right (or less left, maybe) when Le Pen was marginalized and a proper right-wing candidate didn't need to try and appease his followers.

How long ago was it when Bill Maher ended one of his rants with "Democrats are the new Republicans"?

I have to wonder how long it'll be before blue dog democrats are officially (i.e., in the media) classified as wingnuts.

For my money they've been there a long time now.

I'm no Regan fan; never was and never will be, but his calling the Democratic Party "Do Nothing Democrats" sure seems appropriate these days.

I'm curious what the excuse'll be when national health insurance gets flushed down the toilet ... or when somebody will be able to explain just exactly WTF we're doing in Afghanistan that is so important ... or why Goldman Sachs is permitted to record profits after they were paid with our money (through AIG, etc.).

A few more years of this and Obamacrats will be the new Republicans.
