Republicans: The Party of Cutting and Running

Minority Leader John Boehner:

"Democratic leaders, deeply invested in losing the war, would rather move the goalposts and claim that a precipitous withdrawal is the right approach despite the overwhelming evidence of significant progress."

Guess there's a few Republicans invested in losing too then, since a poll of Iowa Republicans had this interesting statistic:

4. Do you favor a withdrawal of all United States military from Iraq within the next six months? (Republicans Only)

Yes 51%

No 39%

Undecided 10%

And then there's:

Sen. Warner: Start bringing troops home by Christmas

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The influential former chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee has called on President Bush to start bringing U.S. troops home from Iraq by Christmas.

Sen. John Warner, a Virginia Republican, said Thursday that a pullout was needed to spur Iraqi leaders to action.

He has recommended that Bush announce the beginning of a U.S. withdrawal in mid-September, after a report is released from the top U.S. officials in Iraq, and that those troops should be back in the U.S. by Christmas.

"In my humble judgment, that would get everyone's attention that is not being paid at this time," said Warner.

But don't worry. It doesn't matter how many Republicans criticize the war--Chuck Hagel, Walter Jones, Warner--the Republican capos are going to pretend that the only ones who want to leave Iraq are the Democrats. Because they're, you know, a pack of liars.

As far as I'm concerned, they can keep shouting those claims from the rooftops. That arrogant disdain for what the people want went over so well with the voters in 2006 that I'm sure they'll want a repeat in 2008.
